What you’ll be doing
Our one-year programme gives you the opportunity to work on exciting systems engineering projects that will create a smarter, safer and more sustainable strategic road network.
Working with our Future Technologies and Mobility team, you’ll get valuable insight on how we solve complex engineering challenges through researching, developing and delivering specialist solutions for our roads.
You’ll also discover how we’re improving the customer experience through emerging technologies such as Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS) that will shape how we design and operate the strategic road network of the future.

What we are looking for
If you have the passion and dedication to succeed, you’ll be a great match for our programme. To be successful, you’ll have:
- An enthusiastic, collaborative approach to working with others
- The ability to communicate in different formats with a variety of stakeholders
- Excellent co-ordination skills
- The ability to plan and prioritise effectively to meet deadlines
- A focus on quality and integrity in everything you do
- Currently studying in your second year of an undergraduate degree in engineering or a related subject (e.g. science, technology or maths) and expected to achieve a minimum of a 2:2
- To be eligible for a placement, you must be available to attend the two-day induction, 30 June – 1 July.
Due to the salary level of this placement, we cannot offer sponsorship for the position for individuals that don't have the Right to Work in the UK. Successful candidates will require Right to Work for the duration of the programme.
