Join our one-year programme and discover the digital, data and technology services that make a real difference at National Highways, from big projects to everyday operations.

What you’ll be doing

If you’re interested in a digital or IT-based career, our one-year programme gives you the opportunity to discover the digital, data and technology services that support our everyday operations and shape the roads of the future.

Digital Services is also home to our Digital Lab, where we develop and roll out our new data and digital solutions that innovate and improve our roads network.

Depending on your placement, you’ll work alongside Digital Services specialists on exciting projects and key services, which could be related to:

  • Cybersecurity and managing risks to our systems
  • Enterprise technology and systems managing around £5 billion in payments every year and supporting key business functions such as HR
  • Business Partnering
  • Our network of traffic technology, helping millions of road users get to where they need to be safely and reliably

What we are looking for

If you have the passion and dedication to succeed, you’ll be a great match for our programme. To be successful, you’ll have: 

  • An enthusiastic, collaborative approach to working with others
  • The ability to communicate in different formats with a variety of stakeholders
  • Excellent co-ordination skills
  • The ability to plan and prioritise effectively to meet deadlines
  • A focus on quality and integrity in everything you do
  • Currently studying in your second year of an undergraduate degree in a digital, IT, business, maths, engineering or sciences subject area
  • To be eligible for a placement, you must be available to attend the 2-day induction, 30th June – 1st July.

Due to the salary level of this role, we cannot offer sponsorship for the position for individuals that don't have the Right to Work in the UK. Successful candidates will require Right to Work for the duration of the programme.
