Entry requirements
- You will need to hold an undergraduate degree to study the Masters in Pastoral Care in Education .
- You will need to be working in an educational setting for this programme. If you aren’t currently working in an educational setting you will need written permission from a senior member of staff to regularly access a setting.

Course content
Pastoral leads are playing an increasingly important role in schools, universities and colleges. Undertaking our master’s degree means you will benefit from a research-based approach to understanding social-emotional, wellbeing and mental health needs of the young people in your care and help to build a culture where everyone matters and everyone is included.
You’ll also have the chance to interact with other pastoral leads from a range of schools, colleges and universities based here in the UK and across the globe in our online learning environment - Campus Online.
Anyone in a pastoral position can benefit from this programme, however it is especially relevant for Inclusion Leads and Managers, heads of year, pastoral leads and senior mental health leads.
The programme is structured so that you can pick and choose modules to fit your interests and the needs of your setting. For example, you might want to focus on cross-cultural attitudes towards special educational needs, or supporting pupils with English as an additional language or strategies to help with social and emotional regulation.
Programme overview
The programme will enable you to:
- Meet the wellbeing needs of your students and their families
- Develop and embed professional practice via the application of enhanced skills and knowledge
- Establish improved practices and policies using the findings of published research and via critical analysis of the evidence base for pastoral support
- Understand and utilise different models of partnership, with an understanding of the place of power and ethics in listening to and understanding children, parents and carers
