Course content

Our Masters in Educational Assessment will help you select the best possible strategies, skills and materials to assess educational needs and get the right support for children in place as early as possible.

Building on the knowledge gained from professional qualifications such as the Certificate in Competence in Educational Testing (CCET), this programme allows you to explore a number of avenues within assessment.

You might take the opportunity to understand more about cognitive functioning to ensure that the interventions you are using meet the assessed needs of the students in the best way possible. You could also drive positive change by focusing on auditing and leading improvements for your school or college’s educational testing provision and practice.

Gaining your master's degree will benefit your setting by increasing in-house expertise to reduce reliance on external support, as well as opening up opportunities for your own personal career development.

We often recommend the programme to SENCOs, Assistant SENCOs, Exams Officers, Access Arrangements Assessors, and Specialist Teachers, but would be of benefit to a wide range of education professionals who want to extend their knowledge of assessment., as well as others who work in the assessment or SEND teams.

The starting point for this programme is our market-leading CCET or CPT3A qualification. You can then build credits by completing modules such as Cognition and Learning that will help you understand the relationship between cognition and learning, neurodiversity and models of disability, or Dyslexia Professional Report writing if you intend to become a specialist assessor, or our enhancing assessment practice module that deepens your knowledge of a wider range of tests, including how to combine results for a more holistic understanding picture.

We recommend adding our auditing and leading improvement module if you want to gain your PG Dip, but you can also include your choice from any of our broader SEND topics.

To gain your MEd you’ll complete our enquiry-based practice module giving you the opportunity to conduct your own action research project within your setting.
