Job description

We are seeking a passionate and dynamic Confectioner to join the Nestlé Production Technology Centre in York for an exhilarating 12-month student placement. This incredible opportunity is perfect for individuals eager to immerse themselves in the world of confectionery and gain invaluable hands-on experience with the development of chocolate innovation.

As a member of our team, you will play a crucial role in driving strategic projects focused on the development and enhancement of both new and existing confectionery products. Collaborating closely with a diverse and talented project team, you will have the chance to work in our state-of-the-art experiential kitchen and pilot plant, all while adhering to commercial requirements.

A day in the life of a Confectioner

The successful candidate will be exposed to a variety of opportunities to help gain first-hand experience of working with our confectionery products. From mastering the art of handcrafting delectable confectionery products to sharing innovative ideas and discoveries, this role offers a thrilling blend of creativity and practicality.

You will:

  • Unleash your creativity and develop confectionery products that align with our business's strategic vision, ensuring timely delivery and presentation to the wider organization.
  • Immerse yourself in the art of precision, creating samples according to the specifications communicated by the Product Technology Centre (PTC) Project Manager. Your keen attention to detail will be reflected in the clear and comprehensive written records of recipes and processes that you maintain.
  • Gain understanding with working with suppliers for confectionery ingredients.
  • Demonstrate your commitment to excellence by ensuring that all documentation, including Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and trial data sheets, is meticulously updated and utilized effectively.
  • Carry out all the duties in compliance with the PTC safety & hygiene requirements of the kitchen and make sure you’re up to date with knowledge in QA, safety & hygiene requirements.
  • Embrace the principles of Good Manufacturing Practices

What we are looking for

  • You will have a natural interest in recipes, ingredients and chocolate. You’ll need excellent organisation skills, a strong work ethic and a talent for multi-tasking.
  • You will be a current student, working towards a qualification in confectionery/patisserie.
  • Experience of working in patisserie/bakery would be advantageous.
  • IT skills - with a good working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
