Entry requirements

In order to undertake this course, we ask that you have an interest in work with children of all ages, young people and their families, have achieved an undergraduate degree or can demonstrate equivalent learning or achievement, have the capacity for active participation in workshops and seminars, and are motivated for independent reading and study.

Course content

For practitioners currently working with children, young people and families, and those who aspire to work in this area, this training offers the opportunity to develop your confidence and expertise.

Learning through lectures, seminars and active observation, you will:

  • Study children's emotional development via weekly lectures and seminars, exploring different life stages in ordinary and complex situations
  • See how key psychoanalytic theories apply to real-life situations and relationships by observing a young child in a nursery or school
  • Consider the emotional complexities of difference and diversity, and the impact they have on the development of the individual and society.

By the end of the course, you will have acquired core theoretical knowledge, practical skills and a formal, university-accredited qualification – enabling you to confidently progress your career in early years settings and beyond.
