Royal Veterinary College
About Royal Veterinary College
Since 1791, the Royal Veterinary College has been pushing forward the scientific frontiers of animal health and medicine. Join us today, and you’ll find a vibrant and growing postgraduate community that provides taught courses and research degrees that cover a wide range of specialist subjects, each one contributing to the improvement of treatment, understanding and welfare of animals in all areas of society, across the world.
Discovery is our heartbeat. It drives us on through our work with animals and in nursing, and it reinforces our commitment to science and research. It’s what we all share here at the Royal Veterinary College, and we’re looking forward to sharing it with you.
The RVC’s strategy for postgraduate taught courses focusses on a contribution to international society and an opportunity for developing core areas of research. Our Populations suite of courses (MScs in Veterinary Epidemiology, One Health; Ecosystems Humans and Animals, Wild Animal Biology, and Wild Animal Health) all focus on related areas of population health management. The courses are lead in partnership with carefully selected partner institutions and the RVC leadership comes from our Wildlife Health (WH) and our Veterinary Epidemiology, Economics and Public Health (VEEPH) academic groups. Through these courses we aim to highlight the strengths of these groups in their respective areas and to train future researchers who can work both within these groups and around the globe.
As a discipline, epidemiological thinking underpins both One Health and wildlife health, but also applies to human health questions and a range of public health work. These areas of research and policy offer an opportunity for veterinary science to contribute to international society and as a leading veterinary research institution with a strong background in these subjects we have chosen to focus on capacity building. Our researchers work on problems from countries around the world, and it is our goal to provide training to students from any country where there is a need for these skillsets. We therefore aim to use our expertise to train future professionals both to work within our own groups and to contribute to health teams around the world.
See Postgraduate Study for information about the wide range of postgraduate taught and research courses, and clinical training scholarships, offered by the RVC.

Facilities and support arrangements
Facilities
Whether you are discovering new subjects in our lecture theatres, or applying your knowledge in a practical scenario, we have the facilities to provide the best possible learning environments for scientists, veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses.
Practical environments
A fundamental part of our courses is the practical experience you gain that will prepare you for your career once you have graduated. We believe that is critical to your development that you are able to apply your theoretical learning in a practical environment, and in some situations, to real-life research or client cases.
You will find laboratories and microscope rooms situated in both campuses, with all the equipment you will need for your course.
Depending on your course, you can gain practical experience across our three animal hospitals, two first opinion practices, including an exotics service, and our own farm.
