The Department of Economics is committed to producing cutting-edge research that has a far-reaching impact on society and the economy, to the rigorous training of future economists in the tools and techniques of the discipline, along with the creation of strong international collaborations. Departmental Information
Founded at the same time as the University of Warwick in 1965, the Department of Economics has become one of the largest and most successful departments of economics in the UK, with over 2000 students and a strong reputation for outstanding teaching and internationally-renowed economic research.
We are an inclusive, diverse community committed to the highest quality research, which informs our teaching on all our programmes. Many of our experts are leaders in their field.

Student Life
As an MSc student, you will benefit from a dedicated pre-sessional course in Maths and Statistics to ensure you are fully up to speed at the start of the programme. Our full induction programme typically includes a quiz, welcome reception, and introductory meetings with course directors.
During your study we offer a wide range of extra-curricular activities to enrich your experience, including a guest lecture series, student conferences and social events. For our guest lectures we invite prominent speakers to discuss topical issues from a range of themes suggested by students themselves, including sustainability and climate change, artificial intelligence, innovation and the economics of war.
We think it is important to provide you with opportunities to relax and get to know both your peers and tutors outside of the classroom. Recent socials have included sports events, a Christmas dinner and a Summer celebration.
Throughout the year we provide academic and pastoral support in a variety of ways and aimed at strengthening different aspects of your academic studies. For example, support with module content and preparation for assessments.
We provide dedicated support for developing skills that your future employers will value: transferable skills in analysis, problem-solving, computing and handling statistics. You will be supported in reflecting on these skills and experiences and articulating them to future employers.
