Entry requirements

A 2:1 in any sports or health-related degree, or another degree with relevant additional qualifications or certifications, is required.

The course is aimed at sports professionals, including physiotherapists, chiropractors, osteopaths, sports therapists, sports scientists, strength and conditioning practitioners, sports coaches, and sports medicine physicians.
You must have access to an athlete or group of athletes to use as case studies for applying theory to practice.

Course content

Our MSc Sport Rehabilitation and Athletic Training (Pre-Registration) programme prepares you to become an internationally recognised healthcare professional with expertise in exercise rehabilitation. This course focuses on clinical assessment, biomechanics, exercise rehabilitation, and optimising health and performance across various population groups.

You will gain a minimum of 400 hours of clinical practice in diverse settings, supervised by registered healthcare or medical professionals. The programme, accredited by the British Association of Sport Rehabilitators and Trainers (BASRaT), qualifies you to sit the BASRaT registration exam and work in IA partner countries, including the USA, Canada, and Ireland.
You will:
  • Assess and improve health and function in individuals with injuries, illnesses, and diseases, enhancing public and athlete health through lifestyle and exercise.
  • Learn from industry experts through practical, small group sessions supported by scientific principles.
  • Develop skills to diagnose and treat injuries, pain, and musculoskeletal conditions, and prescribe exercise for various special populations.
  • Experience placements in diverse settings such as hospitals, GP practices, the Ministry of Defence, private rehabilitation clinics, and dance schools.

The MSc programme is a full-time course spanning two years. You will study clinical assessment, musculoskeletal injuries, exercise prescription, therapeutic techniques, and rehabilitation skills, underpinned by human anatomy, pathology, biomechanics, pain sciences, and psychology.

The programme prepares you to provide effective care autonomously or within a multi-disciplinary team, using cutting-edge rehabilitation techniques.
