Course content
At Newcastle University we provide you with the essential skills, advanced knowledge and understanding of business and management to proceed to doctoral research.
Through the course you'll develop:
- a thorough grounding in theory, approaches and research methods
- associated ethics in the social sciences generally and also in management and business studies in particular
- skills in the analysis of both quantitative and qualitative research data, as well as an understanding of cutting-edge research across the social sciences
- the ability to reconcile different research approaches. You'll analyse data in a wide variety of formats, both qualitative and quantitative
Two key modules are shared with first-year PhD students in the areas of management and business. This provides an exciting opportunity to study alongside the PhD cohort, this:

Information for international students
To study this course you need to meet our Band 6 English Language requirements: Direct Entry: IELTS 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 6.0 in all sub-skills). If you have lower English Language scores, you may be accepted onto a Pre-sessional English Language course.
