Course content
Approximately 1 in 4 schools in the UK is a faith school. A huge benefit of training at LSJS is that you will learn how to teach in a faith school – focusing on Jewish schools, you will learn to be comfortable teaching the national curriculum whilst being respectful of religious beliefs and British values. This gives you a specialist edge as you begin your career.
SCITT (School Centred Initial Teacher Training), is an ideal route to QTS for those who wish to gain experience teaching in a few different schools and positions thoughout their training year. It is a one-year training programme that leads not only to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) but can also lead to a PGCE Primary Education (post-graduate certificate of education).
You will spend part of your time in Hendon, north-west London, being taught how to teach across the primary curriculum. You will also spend around 120 days training in high-performing schools.
You will receive university style training with significant hands-on experience. By the end of the course you will be well-equipped to enter any classroom. We place a real emphasis on practical elements of teaching with expert tuition in creating exciting lessons, using technology as well as class and behaviour management. Over the course, you will develop the tools and confidence to teach a class and quickly rise to senior leadership once you've qualified.
We are a small provider offering excellent support and 1-1 mentoring. We generally do not have more than 20 trainees on the course so we are able to fully invest in your development.
All trainees are allocated a SCITT Professional Tutor who is responsible for monitoring the trainee’s progress during school experiences. Through seminars on applying for your first job and preparing for interviews, your are supported to help secure your first teaching position.
LSJS is an excellent provider of Teacher Training. We offer the chance to train as a Primary School Teacher, or a Primary Jewish Studies Teacher. LSJS has a high employment record and you will be given the best start in your career.
Alternatively, if you wish to train as a Secondary School teacher, please see our School Direct (secondary) programme.
