Heavy Goods Vehicle Technician Apprenticeship

Job description

Our Heavy Goods Vehicle Technician Apprenticeship is designed to provide you with comprehensive training and hands-on experience in maintaining heavy goods vehicles.

Throughout the three-year program, you will have the privilege of working alongside our team of highly skilled HGV fleet maintenance experts. They will guide you through the intricacies of vehicle maintenance, ensuring that you acquire all the necessary skills to become an integral part of our Logistics Team within the world’s largest food and drink company.

What can you expect?

At our York site, we’ll introduce you to all the equipment and technology involved in heavy goods vehicle maintenance. With a dedicated mentor, you’ll learn everything from routine maintenance to diagnosing faults and running tests. Sustainability is also at that heart of what we do, so you’ll have the chance to contribute to meaningful projects that support Nestlé’s ambitious sustainability goals.

As an apprentice, you will be exposed to a wide range of activities, including diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical faults, conducting routine inspections, and performing preventive maintenance on our fleet of heavy goods vehicles. You will also learn how to use advanced diagnostic equipment and software to identify and resolve issues quickly and efficiently.

What will you get out of it?

You will be studying the L3 Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician Apprenticeship. As part of this comprehensive training, off-site training sessions will be conducted every 6-8 weeks. By the end of the programme, you will be fully equipped to take the next step in your logistics career.

By joining our team as a Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician, you will not only have the opportunity to gain valuable experience in a fast-paced environment but also benefit from a strong focus on your personal and professional development. Throughout your journey, you will be supported by one of our passionate Academy Champions, who will provide guidance and mentorship. You will also have dedicated time for learning and skill-building, allowing you to continuously enhance your expertise. Working within this supportive network will not only help you build meaningful connections but also empower you to grow in confidence as you progress your career with us.

Entry requirements

  • You’ll need Maths and English Language GCSEs (or equivalent) at grades 9-4 (A*-C if taken before 2017).
  • Just as important is to be full of energy and enthusiasm for learning. We want to meet people who will see this opportunity for what it is—a chance to build a career with a company where there’s no limit to what you can achieve.
  • You will also have the legal right to work in the UK that is not time limited and does not require visa sponsorship and you will need to be 18 years old by 1 September 2025.
