Job description
There is an exciting opportunity to join Kent County Council in the capacity of Graduate Assistant Project Manager and be a part of the Capital and Strategic Programme team. You will be responsible for supporting the Assistant Project Managers and Project Managers with major project deliveries above and below £1m from concept to post construction, while ensuring compliance with RIBA stages and project lifecycles. You will have the opportunity to gain experience in budget management through assisting the Project Managers in financial management, ensuring tight financial control and contractual compliance.
You will provide support with the monitoring and evaluation for the Construction Partnership Framework - ensuring proper adoption and baseline data collation, working closely with the Project Managers.
You will gain exposure to procurement through assisting the delivery of major and minor schemes in line with ‘Spending the Council’s Money’ and providing general financial support to the team, including raising orders, processing invoices and monitoring all outstanding payments to and from team budgets.
You will also need to deliver high quality customer service and address all complaints raised by staff, customers and members. Ensuring compliance with Health and Safety legislation and completion of appropriate training is also important.
What we are looking for
We welcome applications from candidates that have prior experience of working as part of a team and with partners, who are familiar with gathering, organising and analysing data and have a proven track record of communicating verbally and in writing to a varied audience. You should also have experience of leading or supporting projects obtained in an academic or work environment.
Having excellent attention to detail and communication skills, being methodical and organised, and the ability to work under pressure is also essential. Proficiency in IT software like MS Excel, MS Word and MS Project is a huge plus.
You should also have appreciation of the principles of project management and an understanding of local government with a commitment to the public sector, and a deep understanding of financial monitoring as well as contract and procurement management.
A willingness to work towards an Associate Project Manager apprenticeship is essential.
