Job description

Want to be part of the first UK nuclear new build project in a generation? Dive into the world of pipefitting and join a sector that’s making a lasting impact by building a brighter future in the energy sector.

Join our dynamic team at Hinckley Point C in Somerset as a Pipefitter Apprentice. Be a part of a ground-breaking project that will significantly reduce the UK's carbon emissions and drive the effort towards Net Zero.

Our 3.5-year Pipefitter Apprenticeship programme is an immersive learning experience, blending technical knowledge with practical training to help you gain the qualifications you need for a successful career. In this role, you’ll develop the skills and experience needed to achieve Engineering Technician status and become a qualified pipefitter. As a Pipefitter Apprentice, you will:

  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental standards.
  • Shape and profile pipes and components using power tools, mechanical cutting machines, and other equipment.
  • Learn how to work with various materials, such as carbon, stainless, and duplex steels
  • Prepare and fit piping systems according to engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Collaborate with pipe welders and across the wider business on various projects.
  • Receive specific training tailored to nuclear industry requirements.

In addition to the above, you’ll also receive training on accident and first aid, manual handling techniques, and working in potentially hazardous environments.

What you’ll need

  • A genuine interest in engineering and pipefitting.
  • At least five GCESs with grades 4 (C) and above including Maths and English, or equivalent Level 2 English and Maths.
  • Many of our early careers roles are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which roles you are eligible for. Further details are available at United Kingdom Security Vetting: clearance levels – GOV.UK (www.gov.uk). For our early careers roles, you must be able to achieve BPSS and many of them require you to be eligible for Security Clearance.

Training

You’ll receive your training through Cavendish Nuclear on-site at Hinkley Point C in Bridgwater, and in the classroom at Bridgwater and Taunton College. The combination of real-world experience and classroom learning will help you to achieve your Level 3 Engineering Construction Pipefitter Apprenticeship.
