Here’s what you can look forward to:
- Working on a range of manufacturing, assembly, and testing activities with specialist mechanical equipment unique to the nuclear industry.
- Building confidence and skill with both hand and machine tools through practical training.
- Completing tasks at our Whetstone facility, with occasional placements at customer sites to broaden your industry experience.
- From mastering precision tools to fitting and testing components, each day will offer new learning experiences. By the end of your apprenticeship, you’ll have developed a diverse skill set and established a strong foundation for a successful career in mechanical manufacturing.
What you’ll need
- A minimum of five GCSEs at Grade 4 (C) or above, including English and Science.
- Maths at Grade 5 (B) or above.
- A genuine interest in engineering and manufacturing, as well as a positive attitude.
- Many of our early careers roles are subject to Security Clearance and Trade Control restrictions which mean that your place of birth, nationality, citizenship, or residency you hold or have held may impact which roles you are eligible for. For our early careers roles, you must be able to achieve BPSS and many of them require you to be eligible for Security Clearance.

Training
Throughout your apprenticeship, you’ll engage in a balanced mix of practical and theoretical training.
This combination of hands-on experience and foundational engineering knowledge will support your progress toward achieving the Level 3 Engineering Fitter Apprenticeship standard, which includes an NVQ Level 3 certification through Loughborough College.
