Entry requirements

Candidates for the MMCT in Screen and Media Studies should normally have completed an undergraduate degree with a major in a relevant discipline and have achieved at least a B average or better.

Students will also need to have discuss appropriate supervision arranged arrangements with the Screen and Media Studies Graduate Advisor. Graduates of other undergraduate degrees who have majored in a relevant subjects also may be eligible to enrol in the MMCT. Admission criteria may vary so please consult the appropriate Screen and Media Studies programme Graduate Adviser for their more specific criteria conditions of entry.
Admission to the MMCT requires the agreement of the Head of School or Programme Convenor of the main subject or programme the Graduate Advisor of the Screen and Media Studies programme and agreement of the Pro Vice Chancellor of the Division of Arts, Law, Psychology and Social Sciences (or nominee).

Elevate your creative career with our Master of Media and Creative Technologies in Screen and Media Studies. It is designed to empower media creators, designers, and producers with advanced skills and knowledge.

The Master of Media and Creative Technologies (MMCT) allows you to further your knowledge and skills in Screen and Media Studies, offered under the Te Kura Toi/School of Arts, School of Social Sciences, School of Design, and Waikato Management School. The reason this qualification is popular both nationally and globally is that it not only provides students with a distinct edge in increasingly competitive media fields but provides the opportunity for you to become a leading practitioner and thinker ready for the challenges of the creative industries.

Alongside taught papers, you will work with our internationally-renowned media academic staff where, under their supervision, you will develop a portfolio of audio-visual projects. Areas you can explore include are, but not limited to: short film, documentary, animation, photography, AI, VR, scriptwriting, online content, podcasts, multimedia installations. Effectively, students take a lead in their learning, developing and producing creative works that showcase their distinctive voice ready for public exhibition and employment in numerous media-related fields.

Study under the MMCT will give you extensive collaborative project experience which is supported by technical expertise and advanced creative skills. You will also benefit from substantial grounding in postgraduate academic practice and the deployment of critical and methodological skills in original research.
