Course content
MA Animation (online) will provide you with the latest knowledge and approaches to build your animation, design, and creative direction skills. Through a journey of experimentation, you’ll explore animation techniques and digital technologies to help you develop your own tone of voice, and have the support and freedom to specialise in your chosen direction.
What can you expect?
- You’ll develop accomplished skills in various animation practices, with a special focus on digital animation due to the online nature of the course.
- You'll attend online classes, participate in academic discussions, and develop a deeper knowledge of the theory underpinning your own practice.
- With opportunities to test creative ideas within a critical framework, you’ll also learn vital teamwork skills which reflect the workflows of professional practice.
- You’ll be given free access to software such as Toon Boom, After Effects and Maya, although you may need to purchase other programmes at a reduced educational price.
- As an MA Animation (online) student, you’ll be expected to have access to a computer, drawing tablet, camera, microphone and good internet connection.
- You’ll learn through online and distance learning platforms, where you’ll use your camera and microphone for a more direct and engaging learning experience by participating in activities and group discussions.

Information for international students
All classes are conducted in English. If English is not your first language, we strongly recommend you let us know your English language test score in your application. If you have booked a test or are awaiting your results, please indicate this in your application. When asked to upload a CV as part of your application, please include any information about your English test score.
IELTS 6.5 (or equivalent) is required, with a minimum of 5.5 in each of the four skills.
