Research in the School of Psychology

We are one of the largest research-intensive psychology schools in the UK and have been pushing the boundaries of biological, developmental, clinical, cognitive and social psychology since the 1960’s. We are ranked top 20 in the UK for our research overall in Psychology, Psychiatry and Neuroscience in REF 2021 (Times Higher Education).

Our faculty is composed of both active researchers and lecturers dedicated solely to teaching and our students’ academic development. We provide high-quality teaching while integrating current research into our courses.

Our research strengths span a range of areas, such as:

  • child development
  • cognitive and behavioural neuroscience
  • consciousness
  • mental health and resilience
  • health psychology.

Teaching and learning in the School of Psychology

We deliver exceptional teaching across all areas of psychology in a supportive and inclusive environment.

You’ll work under the supervision of a world-class researcher while you undertake your MSc research project. During your course, you will gain the hands-on experience you need to apply for a PhD or work in a range of different roles.

Our campus

Our beautiful, green campus is home to a welcoming, international community. You’ll find us close to the south coast city of Brighton and the South Downs in the UK, within a UNESCO Living Coast Biosphere Reserve. We’re near to Gatwick airport and just over an hour from London.

As well as being beautiful, our campus is like a large village, with everything you need for day-to-day life. The spacious Student Centre is a hub for student life, with support and information services, social areas and retail outlets.
