Entry requirements
Academic requirements/experience
Minimum second-class (2:2) Honours degree or overseas equivalent.
Mathematical training to A Level or equivalent standard.
Prospective students with relevant experience or appropriate professional qualifications are also welcome to apply.
For Australia and Canada, normal degrees in relevant disciplines are accepted.
Mathematical knowledge
Applicants are required to have some prior mathematical knowledge, eg A Level or equivalent in:
- calculus
- linear algebra
- differential equations
For students lacking this knowledge or requiring a refresher of existing knowledge, a free online pre-sessional mathematics course is available.
English language requirements
You must have an English language minimum score of IELTS 6.0 (with no component below 5.5).
We offer comprehensive English language courses for students whose IELTS scores are below 6.0.
In addition to IELTS, the University now accepts a wider range of English language tests for overseas applicants, such as TOEFL and PTE Cambridge. View the full list of accepted English language tests.

Course content
Our Masters in Statistics & Data Science is a conversion course that allows you to develop skills in statistics and data science without previous study in the area.
You'll be supported by experts who work directly with industry and the public sector, to develop analytical skills which are relevant to the varied industries which make use of data science, including:
- processing and analysis of complex data
- the use of statistical programming for data analysis, machine learning and prediction modelling
- problem solving
- effective communication
- conducting research in the data science field
