Entry requirements
An upper second-class degree or an equivalent standard in other qualifications approved by the University in quantitative subjects such as Geography, Psychology, Population Sciences, Economics, Econometrics, Statistics and Mathematics. Some exposure to statistical methods is required and usually applicants are employed in the area of Official Statistics.

This programme, offered in support of the Government Statistical Service, provides specialist skills and knowledge in statistics and data science. It is particularly suitable if you are employed in an analytical profession in the UK Government or equivalent organisations in the UK and abroad.
It is designed to provide you with the specialist skills and knowledge which are central to conducting professional statistical work within government. The aim of the programme is to equip you with the skills you need to develop a career as a Statistician, Data Analyst or similar allied profession in an Official Statistics or analytical environment.
Many of the skills taught on the programme, such as survey methods and data analysis, are also in great demand by employers outside of government who are conducting large-scale statistical work.
Information for international students
If English is not your first language, you will need to demonstrate your English ability by meeting our Band C requirements: IELTS 6.5 overall, with a minimum of 6.0 in all components. For information on other accepted English language tests, please see our website.
