Course content

The MSc Artificial Intelligence programme is a masters-level course that provides specialisation in AI for students with a background in a technical subject. The programme takes advantage of the specialisms present in the School of Engineering, Computing and Mathematics (SECaM), building on the School’s strong industrial and world-leading research expertise in the exciting and evolving area of AI.

The MSci AI programme is a one year MSc course, and will incorporate elements of the theoretical underpinnings of AI along with exposing students to the practical considerations of constructing AI software tools. Students will study deep technical modules on topics including machine learning, computational intelligence, computer vision and big data, while studying modules on applied AI and robotics to gain an appreciation of the wide range of industrial applications AI has in the modern world. Modules will comprise a range of activities, including lectures and seminars, with an emphasis on practical work. Computing programmes at Plymouth have substantial practical components, which prepares graduates well for work in their future career. This programme is no different, and students will graduate with experience of both using existing AI tools as well as constructing AI software from first principles. A dissertation over the summer will provide students the opportunity to carry out a research project of their choosing, working alongside the internationally recognised research being conducted in AI at Plymouth.
