Course content
Our research studies individual organisms at a genetic and biochemical level. We also use metagenomics to examine the complex interactions in microbial populations. This is applied to:
- improve gut health
- control fermented food production
- to study the spread of antimicrobial resistance
Current areas of ongoing research:
- Rapid pathogen detection
- Metal and antibiotic resistance of bacteria
- Modelling of resistance spread and drug discovery
- Foodborne and zoonotic diseases
