Course content

On this flexible course you’ll develop advanced practical skills and learn how to apply the latest clinical techniques and scientific thinking to the performance management strategies used by the multi-disciplinary team for the enhancement of elite level footballers.

This is a very contemporary and flexible driven course, designed for those who work, or aspire to work, in the fields of football, medicine and science. Developed in consultation with clinical partners, including the FAPL and the Football Medical & Performance Association, the content of this course is especially designed to enhance the skills of current and aspiring GPs, physiotherapists, sports therapists, sports scientists and others in similar roles.

You’ll develop the practical skills needed to rehabilitate injured football players back into action and enhance the condition, fitness and performance of non-injured players using safe and effective methods informed by the latest scientific thinking. You’ll gain an advanced understanding of the key theories and concepts related to the training, physical development and rehabilitation of players, as well as sport and exercise procedures used in evaluating and monitoring fitness and performance.

Engaging with cutting-edge practice and the latest scientific research, you’ll be well placed to initiate positive change and advance the profession of football and sports science, conditioning, injury prevention and rehabilitation when you graduate. As you progress through the course, you’ll gain the confidence to communicate scientific and clinical information to both specialist and non-specialist audiences and devise effective conditioning and rehabilitation programmes.
