Leadership in Health & Social Care
Entry requirements
The University welcomes applications from all potential students, and offers are made following detailed consideration of each individual application.
The decision to offer a place is based on our assessment of a candidate’s potential to benefit from their studies and of their ability to succeed on this particular programme. Whilst you will normally hold a first degree or professional qualification we will consider your application if you do not possess such a qualification but have appropriate health and social care work experience.
Work experience of at least one year in a health and social care-related environment - this experience must be detailed in the application. Applicants are required to provide information, as part of their application, to detail how this experience has prepared them for study on this programme. Stronger applications will be those that include some thought as to how the programme will help the applicant reach their specific career goals.

Course content
This programme is designed to help you progress as a healthcare professional. It will give you both the skills and the professional qualification you need to apply for more senior leadership and management positions within health and social care.
Our team of experienced academics and practitioners focus on competent management and effective leadership, giving students from both clinical and managerial backgrounds the tools required to deliver service improvement and sustainable change in health and social care settings.
The programme is suitable for those working in both clinical and non-clinical roles:
- those already working as allied health professionals, clinical scientists, nurses or doctors who wish to pursue managerial opportunities
- those working within the health and social care or voluntary sector in roles such as commissioning, quality improvement, clinical auditing or risk management who are looking to take the next step in their career
- those who have completed an undergraduate programme in a relevant discipline and have some experience in health and social care
You will have the opportunity to study with people from a variety of different services and settings. The programme is designed to fit into busy working schedules and to be as useful as possible to both yourself and your employer; we combine study and assessment of theory alongside its application within a work setting.
