Entry requirements
Typically, applicants should have a First or Upper Second class Bachelor's degree in Humanities or Social Sciences, with preference given to the latter. In rare cases, Engineering graduates with strong research skills may be considered. The programme welcomes students from various humanities backgrounds. When evaluating applications, we consider the degree subject, grades achieved, and the standing of the applicant's institution.

Course content
The MSc Digital Trust, Society and Security is an interdisciplinary programme that examines the transformative impact of digital technologies on society, with a focused curriculum addressing digital trust, security threats, online harms, and digital inequalities.
Drawing from criminology, computer science, and sociology, and featuring innovative teaching methods including technology-rich spaces, flipped classrooms, and expert guest lectures, the programme equips students with comprehensive knowledge of the digital environment and practical skills.
Graduates emerge prepared for leadership roles across policy, government, private sector, and academia, ready to tackle the complex challenges of our digital age.
Fees and funding
Postgraduate taught scholarships and awards may be offered to outstanding applicants, students from key target markets in the Global South and from a widening participation background. This forms part of the faculty’s and programme team’s effort to diversify student recruitment.
Opportunities for funding will be as follows:
1. Manchester Humanities International Excellence Scholarship , worth 20% scholarship in the form of a discount on the programme’s tuition fees. Scholarships are awards to exceptional international students commencing their postgraduate studies across subjects in its Faculty of Humanities.
2. Manchester Master’s Bursary, worth £4,000 per selected student. The bursaries are aimed at helping students from widening participation background access postgraduate education. These bursaries aim to target prospective students from groups that are currently underrepresented, including refugees or asylum seekers, low-income backgrounds, care experienced, living with a disability, underrepresented ethnic backgrounds, first in their generation to consider higher education etc.
3. Manchester Alumni Scholarship Scheme, offers £3,000 reduction on fees paid directly to the University at the start of the course. The scholarship is available to UoM graduates who have received a first-class honours degree within three years and are enrolling on a Faculty of Humanities master’s course.
