Entry requirements

Applicants for the PhD programme would normally have, or be studying for a Master’s degree, while our MPhil programme requires a first or upper second degree in a discipline related to the proposed research project, or a relevant, approved postgraduate qualification.

To apply for the MSc you need to have a first or a 2:1 (or equivalent) in an undergraduate degree from a UK or other approved university.

If English is not your first language you will need an acceptable pass in an approved English Language qualification to make sure you get the full benefit from studying at Swansea. We consider a wide range of qualifications, including the Swansea University English Test, the British Council IELTS test (with a score of at least 6.5 in each component).

Course content

What human beings need and how societies meet those needs is at the heart of social policy. Our research addresses key contemporary social issues from national and international perspectives, examining themes such as social justice, equality, fairness, and citizenship.

Over the course of your studies, you will develop and enhance transferable skills such as problem solving, project management, and critical thinking that are valued in any professional setting. We have a strong record in providing postgraduate research provision and welcome proposals on topics across the field.
