Course content
Future teachers of Design and Technology (D&T) need to be familiar with subject knowledge across the four areas of D&T in order to teach to secondary pupils. The D&T Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) course has been designed with the aim of helping students develop a deeper understanding of fundamental D&T concepts with particular emphasis on the Design and Make process that is inherent in the D&T Curriculum.
This is a full-time, eight week SKE course for graduates with a degree in a subject other than Design and Technology, who wish to train as secondary Design and Technology teachers.
The aim is to provide the breadth and depth of knowledge and understanding that you need to teach secondary D&T confidently and competently. The course reflects the current national curriculum content. SKE courses are well-established at Nottingham Trent University and there are many successful teachers in our region who began their training by completing a SKE course.
Fees and funding
This SKE course is fully funded by the Department for Education and you will receive a tax free bursary of up to £200 per week for the duration of the course (subject to confirmation by DfE).
