Course content
Microbiology is a well-funded research area at Newcastle University. This creates a vibrant and dynamic environment for postgraduate study.
In biological sciences, our Applied and Environmental Microbiology group researches:
- microbial biology in a range of habitats
- discovery of natural products, eg antibiotics
- reduction of food spoilage
- production of biofuels, bioremediation of polluted environments
- pathogens and host-pathogen interactions in a range of diseases. This includes those in plants and coral reefs.
Information for international students
Direct Entry: IELTS 6.5 overall (with a minimum of 5.5 in all sub-skills).
If you have lower English Language scores, you may be accepted onto a Pre-sessional English course.
