About Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology

Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology (NMIT) is a government institute with campuses based in the top of the South Island. NMIT is rated category-one status, the highest possible, by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority. We have been educating successful graduates since 1905. Over 7,000 students study at NMIT every year across certificate, diploma, bachelor’s and postgraduate study in over 100 different programmes.

Facilities and support arrangements

Over $43 million has been invested in recent years in a range of modern facilities. These include the award winning Creative Industries building, the very latest Maritime simulation software suite. The facilities have been built so you receive the best learning experience and use the equipment you will use every day in your new career.

The Library Learning Centre (LLC) on the Nelson Campus provides library services, computing, audio-visual and study facilities to support all your learning and research needs. The collection consists of books, journals, electronic databases and audio-visual resources. There are a range of study spaces available, including computer suites, a training seminar room, small study rooms and a computer café with after-hours access. All students have free and unlimited access to the Internet on campus and will be provided with their own email address.

NMIT's Cultural Advisors are on hand to assist students with the following:

NMIT’s learning advisors are here to advise and assist you with any aspect of your learning. The team offers one-to-one training as well as a range of seminars or small group training sessions. Their aim is to help students to become independent effective learners.

SANITI is your fun, friendly and independent student association; providing events and services to NMIT students on all campuses. The team is located on the Nelson Campus and visits the Marlborough and Woodbourne Campuses regularly. SANITI is run by students. Our new outdoor AstroTurf sports court is available to use for games of soccer, tennis, netball or basketball. Learners can borrow equipment from the student support team or feel free to use your own.

Location

We have two main campuses in New Zealand - both on South Island. The two campuses are in Nelson and Blenheim. The Nelson Marlborough region has the highest number of sunshine hours in New Zealand and Nelson is the safest city in Australasia. Each of our campuses offer programmes designed to complement the business and industry demands of the area. Nelson and Blenheim are approximately a one hour 15-minute flight from Auckland.

Accommodation NMIT Learner Services can organise your accommodation in a homestay. We also provide an airport pick-up service for all international students. In Nelson and Marlborough it is a free service. If you require on-campus accommodation or commercial accommodation, i.e. backpacker hostel or private rooms, we can advise on suitable providers. You will need to book with them directly. Prices vary depending on the campus you have selected, for detailed information refer more to our website.

Nelson campus – NMIT’s main campus is located in Nelson’s vibrant city centre. The city is renowned for its festivals, markets, and lifestyle.

How to apply

You can apply online or download an application form online and send a scanned copy to us by email, or send it by post. Remember to include a copy of your passport, certified copies of your academic records, proof of English proficiency, details of any work experience and any additional information required for specific programme entry. We recommend that you apply and enrol early, as places can fill quickly in many programmes. Late applications may be considered if there are places available on the programme.
