About Institute for Diplomacy and International Affairs

The Institute for Diplomacy and International Affairs (IDIA) offers master's and doctoral programmes designed to meet the evolving demands of today's world. At IDIA, we work alongside our students to provide them with the essential tools to comprehend these global realities, preparing them for diverse careers in both public and private sectors across the globe.

Our students collaborate closely with academic staff and peers to enrich their studies, gaining expertise in topical issues such as the impact of digital technologies on diplomacy and the connection between geopolitics and sport.
Experts from academia, government, and industry share their insights, and occasionally their secrets, to guide and support students' learning and discoveries. Our London campus, with its entrepreneurial focus, facilitates access to various decision-makers and practitioners. We maintain a global network of academics and professionals, regularly inviting them to discuss their latest work, careers, and daily responsibilities.

Our programmes

Our programmes are designed to involve you in many different aspects of contemporary diplomacy and international affairs, from trade to security, digital diplomacy to global cities, via skills in international negotiations and policy briefing. Experts from academia, government and industry will share their insights (and secrets, in some cases) to guide and support your own discoveries and learning.

A standout feature of many of our postgraduate programmes is the Collaborative Project module, which brings together students from diverse disciplines to solve real-world business or social challenges. This hands-on experience allows you to work directly with a real organisation, gaining invaluable industry insight.

Research

In our research, we apply interdisciplinary and innovative approaches to address real-world international issues such as trust in international negotiations, the visual communication of protests, and Russia's role on the global stage.
