Course content

The PGCE Art and Design programme will support students to consider the pedagogy of Art and Design in depth. This part of the course aims to develop and integrate subject pedagogy and theory with classroom practice and equip student teachers with the skills necessary to become reflective and effective teachers of Art and Design across the 11-18 age range.

Through the strong partnership with schools, you will learn from experienced art teachers how to inspire pupils in creative learning and be invited to enrich the curriculum through your contemporary art practice. Learning outside the classroom is an important aspect of art and design education and you will be introduced to the wealth of cultural organisations including galleries and museums in Liverpool that you can use to inform your teaching as a student teacher and in your teaching career. School placements will cover the 11-16 age range, along with a KS5 enhancement.
