Secondary Education (11-16) EBACC with recommendation for Qualified Teacher Status
Entry requirements
Applicants should have at least a lower second-class honours degree relevant to secondary education in or related to the subject area the candidate is applying for. Applicants should also have at least grade C in A Level Maths or an equivalent qualification.
GCSES:
GCSE English Language and Maths at Grade 4 (Grade C for those sitting their GCSE before 2017) or above, or an equivalent award including some equivalency tests, are required prior to the course start (Evidence should usually be provided by 1 September). Functional Skills and the Certificate in Adult Numeracy/Literacy are not accepted in place of GCSEs. All offers are subject to satisfactory health and criminal history checks.

As part of this course, you will choose one of the pathways below to study*:
- PGCE Physical Education with English (11-16) with recommendation for QTS
- PGCE Physical Education with Geography (11-16) with recommendation for QTS
- PGCE Physical Education with Maths (11-16) with recommendation for QTS
We are an established Physical Education provider with a long tradition of high quality training for teachers. Your skills and knowledge will be developed in a supportive learning community with vast experience of training the next generation of Physical Education teachers. Your network of support will include our research staff and course tutors, who will be on hand to sharpen your teaching expertise and knowledge of the subject, ensuring it is informed by the latest research and practices.
We will develop your communication skills so that you can confidently manage a large group of pupils. For example, you will understand the importance of planning, communication, demonstration and resources to address pupil’s learning and progress when teaching Physical Education.
We will give you the skills to confidently manage classes with wide differences in ability. You will be able to devise lessons that develop from personalised activities to games that involve and stimulate your entire class. We will also develop your organisational skills so that you will be able to plan your lessons and teach effectively regardless of the weather.
Your training will also develop your understanding of how Physical Education can be used to motivate and strengthen learning in your pupils beyond the physical benefits of sport.
*Your course will involve you learning to teach and teaching your chosen EBacc second subject for a minimum of 10% of the time. The remaining hours will be spent involved with the main subject Physical Education
