If you're AAT qualified, you're exempt from this level and can start ACCA Applied Skills straight away.
If you've graduated with a degree accredited by ACCA, you may be eligible for exemptions from both Applied Knowledge and Applied Skills.
You can check whether you're eligible and should apply for any exemptions on the ACCA website before you start applying.

Course content
This level will develop your understanding of essential financial, business and management accounting techniques with ACCA Applied Knowledge. You’ll learn basic business and management principles and the skills required of an accountant working in business. This level consists of three mandatory subjects (Business and Technology (BT), Management Accounting (MA) and Financial Accounting (FA)) which can be sat in any order. You must pass all three on demand computer based exams to complete this level, which will take you around 12 months to complete.

If you're already working in a related field, your employer may fund your studies to support your professional development. Alternatively, you can spread the cost over 12 months with an interest-free payment plan, available when purchasing all subjects in a level. Employers looking to upskill their organisation can also register as a Kaplan client to facilitate staff training and education.

Learning outcomes from the course
The Applied Knowledge level focuses on the role of accounting within the business environment and aims to develop the essential practical skills and techniques required of an accountant. Throughout this level, you will learn about the interaction between business and technology, as well as the underlying concepts of financial and management accounting. By the end of this level, you will be proficient in double-entry accounting and capable of preparing financial statements. Completion of this level allows you to progress to the Applied Skills level.
