Entry requirements

We welcome applications from talented candidates from all backgrounds. Candidates are normally high potential, early-career managers with one to five years’ post-qualification experience in any sector.

Candidates normally possess a first or second class, UK honours degree (or international equivalent). Alternatively, we will consider a professional qualification (such as CIMA, ACA, ACCA) together with a minimum of five years’ post-qualification work experience.

Other relevant qualifications, together with significant experience, may also be considered. Professional experience and personal qualities are equally important to us and each application is considered on its individual merit.

Before an application is submitted for the Senior Leader Apprenticeship programme, you need to have approval from the employer. Students have to be employed and your employer has to agree to provide you with the support and supervision to carry out your job role and your apprenticeship. It is a requirement of the Apprenticeship Funding Rules that you are working at least 50% of your contracted hours in England.

A three-way agreement needs to be put in place between Cranfield University, your employer, and you.

This part-time programme meets the requirements of the Senior Leader Apprenticeship Standard. Eligible organisations can use £14,000 of their Apprenticeship Levy to cover the programme tuition fee, which incorporates the Management and Leadership PgDip (Part 1). There is then the option to continue and complete the MSc in Management and Leadership (Part II). Find out more about our Postgraduate Apprenticeships.

Our Senior Leader Apprenticeship: Management and Leadership Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) programme has been designed in two parts and is delivered in partnership with business advisory firm, Grant Thornton. The programme provides a distinctive and collaborative learning experience which develops your leadership and management capabilities enabling you to become reflective and evidence-based leader of the future.

Businesses can use apprenticeship levy funding to cost-effectively develop employee management and leadership knowledge and skills enabling them to apply best practice and be more effective within their organisation. Students gain a comprehensive knowledge of core business functions enabling them to show leading-edge insights and knowledge in a variety of management areas and think more strategically about business and management.

On successful completion of the apprenticeship programme, which incorporates the Management and Leadership PgDip (Part I), you have the option to progress onto the Management and Leadership MSc (Part II), which enables you to cement your learning and complete a significant work-based project within your organisation. You will also develop a deep understanding of contemporary business issues and a capacity to assume active leadership roles.
