PGCE Secondary Science
Entry requirements
All entrants must hold an Honours degree of which science or a science related subject forms a significant part, or a recognised equivalent qualification. GCSEs in English, Mathematics and Science at Grade C or above are also required before interview.

Course content
This course is designed to equip you with expertise and experience to become a science teacher in a secondary school. You will develop detailed subject knowledge, skills and understanding of pedagogical issues related to science at the 11-14 age phase.
Subject Knowledge Enhancement
If you wish to follow the chemistry or physics specialism and your degree does not include enough chemistry or physics, the Teaching Agency (TA) sponsors several Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) courses which range in length from 2 weeks to 12 months. Newman's SKE courses will provide you with the opportunity to acquire enough chemistry or physics to teach it to at least Key Stage 3, 4 and post-16. PGCE routes at Newman provide two opportunities - Professional Graduate Certificate of Education which prepares applicants for teaching or Postgraduate Certificate of Education which will include 60 credits at Masters level. The latter will be offered to applicants with an outstanding academic record or significant experience.
