Job description
Join our community and be part of something life-changing. Trainee Teachers to start training in September 2025.
Astra SCITT (School-Centred Initial Teacher Training) provides excellent learning opportunities for all, through education, training and action research.
Our vision is simple: excellence in teacher training. We are committed to our values of collaboration, support and innovation. We aim to do everything with integrity.
Partnering with Bath Spa University, we provide both QTS and PGCE training for trainee teachers in local primary, secondary (including A level) and special schools, including the full range of secondary subjects. While most trainees study full time, each year a small number pursue part time training. We can offer you a variety of different routes, including bursary-led, unsalaried, salaried and postgraduate apprenticeships.
The Astra curriculum places great focus on developing trainees' professional knowledge, skills and values. We develop trainees as reflective practitioners, encouraging you to think critically, draw upon the best available research evidence and make informed professional judgements. At the same time, we see our training as enormously practical, and great emphasis is placed on school based learning, where you work closely with a mentor and other school based professionals to hone your classroom skills.
We work with over 60 schools and other organisations across Buckinghamshire and surrounding areas. Astra teacher training has an employment rate of more than 95% at the end of the course and over 95% of our trainees get their first job in a school in Buckinghamshire or the neighbouring area.
