Tax - Tax Financial Services - Graduate Trainee - September 2025 - London

Job description

The role of a Financial Services (FS) Tax Trainee is to assist in the provision of corporate tax compliance and advisory services as part of a specialist team to a portfolio of clients including banks, insurance companies and asset managers.

They assist in the preparation of company's corporation tax computations and returns and to ensure that they show a true representation of the company's tax position and provide bespoke advice to clients on their tax affairs.

You will also support our Audit of Tax engagements where we provide opinions on the accuracy of tax amounts and balances reported within financial statements for FS clients.

We operate a hybrid working model, so as a trainee you will split your time between working from home, visiting the office, client sites when required or studying for your professional exams.

During your first two years you will

  • Learn how to use tax software and systems in order to prepare a corporation tax computation and return.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of financial statements and the nature of our clients' business in order to be able to prepare and/or review tax accounting disclosures to the best of your ability.
  • Be able to obtain relevant information from other departments and clients whilst building good communication with both.
  • Be able to help write reports and produce other client deliverables to assist the client in explaining issues, risks and solutions in easily understandable language that they can act on.
  • Start to develop FS tax technical skills whilst working with a dedicated portfolio of FS clients.

By the end of your third year you will

  • Work on a range of different compliance and advisory engagements across UK FS tax covering a range of FS tax specific technical areas
  • Develop a strong technical knowledge of the UK tax legislation with particular focus on FS specific concepts
  • Coach and lead more junior team members on Audit of Tax FS engagements
  • Understand the way in which different corporate entities operate across FS
  • Work directly with our clients across your portfolio and begin developing relationships with those clients to deliver on repeat engagements
  • Begin to manage advisory engagements, including planning, budgeting and project managing different service lines where required
  • Develop a strong understanding of our control and risk management procedures

  • Fully funded professional qualification for this role: Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA) / Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA)
  • Additional qualification(s): Level 7 apprenticeship
