Research

Research and Knowledge Exchange at Roehampton continues to address the most pressing issues facing societies, governments and communities around the globe.

At Roehampton, our research culture is driven by a commitment to advancing a socially just, sustainable and creative society. Our researchers are engaged in world-leading cross-disciplinary research, which strives to solve our most complex problems across the creative and cultural sectors, health and wellbeing, social justice, faith and society, economic sustainability and environmental conservation.

Over the last year and a half, a number of projects have focused on the impact of Covid-19. These include studies exploring the impact of the pandemic on working couples, London’s nightlife and a ground-breaking study on the mental health of the country’s healthcare workers. We’ve worked with charities supporting at risk BME and refugee women and have helped to inform the government’s thinking on policing domestic abuse and honour-based violence.

In response to the devastating impact of the climate crisis, we launched the Roehampton Climate Network which shares knowledge and insights through public-facing events, provides opportunities for research collaboration and drives change on environmental and sustainability issues at Roehampton.

Our researchers continue to address environmental sustainability. This includes studies into animal conservation and behaviour, biodiversity, and a recent study researching the impact of microplastics on groundwater ecosystems.
We have informed the UN’s approach to securing land rights for indigenous populations, designed tools to assess what employment skills young people will need in the future, and demonstrated the value of school-based humanistic counselling in helping children suffering from mental health issues.
